Rep. Koutoujian to Present Cancer Advocacy Fellowship Award at
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk
Award is in memory of beloved American Cancer Society volunteer advocate
Boston – State Representative Peter J. Koutoujian (D-Waltham) will present the Denise Merrill Advocacy Fellowship Award at the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk on Sunday, October 4th at the Hatch Memorial Shell in Boston. The advocacy fellowship award is offered in memory of American Cancer Society volunteer Denise Merrill, who died of cancer in 2001. Denise was a well-known advocate for cancer-related causes including legislation on Beacon Hill and was also a close friend of Rep. Koutoujian.
“Denise worked tirelessly to improve access to quality cancer prevention, treatment and screening,” said Rep. Koutoujian. “I am touched that Denise’s legacy lives on through this award and honored to present it to a candidate who shares her values and determination.”
The Merrill Advocacy Fellowship is awarded annually to a cancer survivor who is interested in working with the American Cancer Society’s advocacy team on state and local legislation in an effort to reduce the incidence of cancer related illness and death in Massachusetts. This year’s Merrill Fellowship winner is Nancy Doucette.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer is an annual event, which honors and celebrates breast cancer survivors, while educating women about the importance of reducing their cancer risk, and raising money to fund lifesaving research and support programs.
