Representative Koutoujian Provides Keynote Speech at the
World Health Care Congress Forum
Provides the Massachusetts Perspective on Health Care Reform in Light of National Debate
Alexandria, VA – Today Representative Peter Koutoujian, House Chairman of the Joint Committee on Financial Services, was the key note speaker at the World Health Care Congress, a conference of health leaders from across the country, where he was invited to discuss the successes and challenges presented by universal health care in Massachusetts.
Koutoujian’s presentation, “The Massachusetts Universal Coverage Model: Is This the Answer to the National Health Care Reform Debate?”, will educate participants about the health care coverage model used here and progress we have made on health care reform as the country attempts to provide universal coverage throughout the United States.
“Massachusetts is the pioneer in the field of health care innovation,” Koutoujian said. “I am proud to be able to showcase the progress we have made in the Commonwealth and contribute to the health care reform debate happening on the national level”.
In 2004, 600,000 residents, or 7.4% of the population in Massachusetts did not have health insurance. Five years later, that number has declined to 2.6%. As the national debate continues as to how to enact successful, effective health care reform to provide universal coverage for all Americans, Koutoujian will provide insight on how Massachusetts was able to do just that as well as the lessons learned to date.
