Today, State Representative Peter Koutoujian and the Waltham Boys and Girls Club announced that the Club will be the recipient of a grant from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation totaling $29,148. The award will provide the financial resources necessary for the Club to participate in the Badges for Baseball program, a year-long crime prevention initiative.
“The Waltham Boys and Girls Club has always been a place for our kids to play and learn,” State Representative Koutoujian said. “This grant award, graciously donated by the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation, will go a long way towards keeping our kids active and safe.”
“The Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation is truly excited to be teaming up with the Waltham Boys & Girls Club to provide coaches, role models and mentors to help kids make the right choices in life and give them every advantage to grow into caring, healthy and successful adults,” said Dennis Murphy of The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation.
“The Waltham Boys & Girls Club is looking forward to partnering with the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation to offer the Badges for Baseball Program,” said Executive Director Jennifer Aldworth. “By incorporating this program, the Waltham Boys & Girls Club will be addressing the fitness, social and nutritional needs of the youth we serve.”
The Badges for Baseball program couples law enforcement volunteers as mentors and coaches with young children from community based youth organizations. Participating kids work closely with law enforcement mentors on and off the ball field. The funding will provide for staffing, uniforms, field maintenance and equipment.
