Sites State funding in budget to improve safety on Watertown, Newton Road
Boston – In response to an increase in traffic incidents related to manhole covers, the Massachusetts Highway Department announced yesterday the launch of a 24 hour highway hotline for drivers to report problems while driving. This morning, it was reported that two motorists experienced flat tires involving manhole covers on Nonantum Road.
“In the wake of two more accidents involving Nonantum Road, it is imperative that this road be reconfigured to better meet the needs of the traveling public,” State Representative Peter Koutoujian said. “The situation involving the manhole covers only exacerbates an already urgent, dangerous problem in dire need of fixing. Every week we hear about another terrible accident. We need to act quickly to redesign Nonantum Road and improve the safety of Massachusetts drivers.”
This year, Koutoujian successfully fought to obtain $250,000 in the state budget to begin the redesign of Nonantum Road.
