Koutoujian offers pandemic flu information packets - 03/20/2007

BOSTON – State Rep. Peter Koutoujian, D-Waltham, today announced he is offering free to the public informational packets on the potential for a flu pandemic striking Massachusetts and the rest of the United States. It also addresses what individuals can do to protect themselves and their families.

While the traditional seasonal flu claims the lives of roughly 36,000 Americans each year, many health experts predict a pandemic flu could kill more than a half-million people. Public health officials in Massachusetts, the United States and around the world are taking steps to combat a pandemic flu outbreak, but there is plenty the general public should know about minimizing the risk of contracting the flu.

“Many of the world’s top health experts believe a flu pandemic is inevitable,” said Koutoujian. “The public needs to know the facts about the flu, especially the dangers of a pandemic. I believe we can save a lot of lives and money if we work together to protect ourselves.”

The packets are produced by the Trust for America’s Health.  Contact 617-722-2130 to receive one.
